I'm Ready for Probe, Says Kalu
Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, has said he is ready to resign, should any state money be traced to any of his private accounts.
From Ugochukwu Eke in Umuahia, 05.30.2006
He said this yesterday in a state-wide broadcast to mark this year痴 Democracy Day, adding that he is ready to face the law, if and when such serious allegations against him are proved to be correct.
典his is not an empty boast, I am ready to resign from office and face the law when any Abia fund is traced to my personal accounts, I am ready to resign to prove my innocence and prove my detractors who have never seen anything good in me wrong,・he said.
Kalu said his detractors who are ready to stop anything good from taking place in the state had fought the Abia State vigilance law from being operative, which was made to fight armed robbery menace.
According to him, 鍍he selfish interest of some Abians has kept the vigilance law on the shelf and armed robbers are having a field day in the state,・he said.
The governor, who said he was worried by the renewed increase on armed robbery attacks in the state, with the police not able to do anything because of lack of enough fire power.
典o this effect, I had made passionate appeal to the Federal Government to come to our aid through a joint military and police patrol of the streets, which had not been approved by those concerned,・he said.
He, however, assured the citizens of the state and visitors to feel free to do so, because new strategies have been mapped-out by his government to check the menace.
On his political future, Kalu said only God will stop him from contesting and becoming the President of Nigeria next year, and called on Ndigbo and other Nigerians to rally aroun d him to achieve this.
According to him,努hen I made a revelation in 2002, on moves to elongate Obasanjo痴 tenure, people called me an alarmist and other sorts of names, but today, events have shown that I was correct, and they even went as far as inducing the National assembly with public funds to elongate the president痴 tenure.・BR>He urged Ndigbo to fall behind him and give him their support to be Nigerian president next year, saying, 登ther groups want the presidency, but only a well organised group with good plans can get the exalted office of the preident next year, and I am determined to do it through your backing.
