PDP moves to reconcile with Orji Kalu
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has invited Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu to a meeting in Abuja to discuss terms of reconciliation following the running disagreement he has had with the leadership of the party.
According to Iyke Ekeoma, Special Adviser to Governor Kalu on Media Affairs, in a letter of invitation dated 25th May, 2006 and signed by Professor Jerry Gana, chairman, PDP South East Reconciliation Committee, the party told Kalu that the committee was inviting him to the meeting to explore avenues of reconciliation.
Part of the letter reads "as a prominent stakeholder and party leader, the committee is inviting you to the reconciliatory meeting. We also solicit your gracious intervention to ensure good attendance especially at the interactive session. We have collectively strived over the years to build this party into a united, cohesive and formidable party. We must therefore continue to work together as one big family to sustain our great party, deepen democracy and deliver good governance to our people. Nigerians expect no less from us".
Kalu has been having a long-drawn rift with the leadership of the PDP in Abuja over the control of the state executive committee of the PDP in Abia State. The list of those invited to the meeting shows that the National Headquarters is reaching out to the Chief Uzodinma Okpara faction of the party, the faction that has the backing of Governor Kalu and most of his loyalists.
Majority of those invited for the meeting are loyalists of the Governor. These include the Governor, his Deputy, PDP Senators from the state, Speaker and, members of the state House of Assembly, Secretary to the state government, commissioners, local government chairmen, councillors etc. The invitation of Kalu and his loyalists comes against the assumption that the PDP had effectively shut its doors to Governors Kalu, Boni Haruna of Adamawa and Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The committee is expected to be in Abia state tomorrow Friday 2nd June, 2006.
