OSMI squares Ghana against Jamaica in Leicester
OPTIMA Sports Management International (OSMI), Nigeria's leading sports marketing organisation and the television and new media rights holder of 18th FIFA World Cup, "Germany 2006", has concluded arrangements for an international friendly match between Jamaica and World Cup-bound Ghana.
The match will be played on Monday, May 29, at the Walkers Stadium, Leicester.
The friendly match which is part of OSMI's fulfilment of one of its cardinal objectives of supporting World Cup teams, is part of warm-up matches lined up for Ghana's first ever appearance in the FIFA World Cup.
Speaking on the friendly match, the Managing Director of OSMI, Rotimi Pedro, said the effort is part of the organisation's plans towards the development of African football.
"Organising an international friendly for Ghana is our own little way of preparing one of the African teams representing the continent for the World Cup," he said.
"It is also a fulfilment of our agreement with the two countries on managing their international engagements. In the case of Jamaica, we have the full responsibility of managing their international friendly matches
"We have also successfully brokered another international friendly match between Jamaica and England, to be played on June 4. The match is going to be England's last game before the commencement of the World Cup on June 9."
Ghana's team, popularly known as "The Black Stars," is captained by combative midfielder, Stephen Appiah of Fenerbahce and the experienced Samuel Kuffour of AS Roma, while Chelsea's Michael Essien is its star man.
"The Reggae Boys" of Jamaica are no strangers to the Walkers Stadium, having lined up against Brazil in October 2003, and have captured the hearts of many a football fan with their flamboyant style on and off the pitch.
Former Foxes' Frank Sinclair and Trevor Benjamin have previously represented Jamaica while Marlon King of Watford, Southampton's Ricardo Fuller and Ricardo Gardner of Bolton are current squad members.
