Why criticisms trail Fayose's govt, by council boss
THE growing criticisms of Ekiti State government has been ascribed to the prudent management of the state by the Governor Ayo Fayose-led administration as all loopholes through which people steal money in the past have been blocked.
From Julius Alabi, Akure
Speaking with The Guardian in Akure, Ondo State capital yesterday, Chairman of Oye Local Council, Mr. Bamitale Oguntoyinbo, stressed that Fayose's resolve to take the state to a greater height has not gone down well with some people who are hell-bent on looting the state's treasury.
Oguntoyinbo likened the role played by Fayose's administration in the state in the area of road construction to that of Moses in the Holy Bible who led the children of Israel from the land of Egypt.
He expressed gratitude to the governor and his team for showing keen interest in the dualisation of Ado-Ekiti roads and rehabilitation of rural roads alongside efforts at alleviating poverty through economic empowerment, skill acquisition and entrepreneurial development programmes.
While reeling out his achievements so far, the council chairman said a number of projects have been carried out by his administration to better the lots of the people of the area.
"We have also given attention to poverty alleviation as about 50 motorcycles have been purchased by this council which were distributed to youths in the area so that they can have something to lay their hands upon", he said.
Oguntoyinbo further explained that about 24 generating sets have been distributed to people of the area with clippers to set up salons, saying that 144 stoves have also been given to widows in the area.
"Before I assumed office, our internally generated revenue (IGP) was between N30,000 and N40,000 per month but now, it has risen to N250,000 per month with the help of the committee I set up to look into the situation", he said.
He noted that the council has made its mark in the area of agriculture with a piggery project, raising of turkey and palm seedling.
He added that in the health sector, six basic health centres have been renovated while about 127 kilometres of roads have been graded, adding that when he assumed office as chairman, only one vehicle was functional but now, he has repaired about 25 of them.
