Imoke commissions Owerri-Ahoada-Yenegoa power line
THE first phase of the $76 million Owerri-Ahoada-Yenagoa 132KVD/C power transmission line has been commissioned.
Minister of Power and Steel, Senator Liyel Imoke commissioned the project in Rivers State during his nationwide inspection of projects under his ministry.
While expressing satisfaction with the quality of work executed, including the standard of equipment and materials used, the minister urged the contractor to ensure that the mutually agreed date of December 29, 2005 to connect Bayelsa to the national grid is realised.
The Federal Government awarded the contract for connection of Bayelsa State to the national grid to an indigenous firm, Messrs Pivot Engineering Company Limited, in September, 2000. But work did not begin until January 2002 due mainly to increase in contract scope, community and youth crises and other extraneous factors.
