MASSOB members recall Okigwe Police raid…say their member’s wife is still missing

-- by Oguerilam Adiuku, BNW News ---- A member of the Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Mr. Victor Emenike, may have resigned to fate following his experiences, which have resulted from his bona fide membership of the movement.

Some members of MASSOB who spoke on grounds of anonymity told newsmen at Owerri last week that Mr. Emenike was among the survivors of the reported police attack on MASSOB at Umulolo in Okigwe L.G.A. of Imo sometime in 2003.

The MASSOB members have recalled the incident, which they claimed, led to the death of well over 68 of its members, leaving about 45 seriously wounded.

They said that after the incident which they captioned ‘Bloodbath’ in Imo, that the police went as far as raiding the MASSOB secretariat and also burnt houses of some of the members which include the residence of Mr. Emenike.

They also told the newsmen that, the same Mr. Emenike’s one year old son was killed in the process, while his wife Mrs. Mercy Emenike is yet to be traced after she was declared missing.

The members have regretted that the life of Mr. Emenike is still being threatened by the police making references to the NewsMirror Vol 5 No 11 which covered fully the MASSOB incident of Saturday 29th March, 2003.

The aggrieved MASSOB have also said that Mr. Emenike has sustained bullet wounds after what they termed as Okigwe massacre in 2003.

They had earlier lodged their protest against further maltreatment and killing of MASSOB members.
