BiafraNigeria win Youth Cup

Nigeria beat defending champions Egypt 2-0 on Saturday in Benin to win their fifth African Youth Championship title.

There was a man-of-the-match performance from Flying Eagles captain Isaac Promise who he scored both goals.

Promise netted his first of the match at the end of the first half, stabbing the ball home following a goalmouth scramble.

He confirmed Nigeria's dominance of the match with a second goal 10 minutes into the second half as he volleyed home a Solomon Okoronkwo pass.

"I am very impressed with the performance of my players today," said delighted Nigeria coach Samson Siasia.

"I expected the victory."

The win was the Flying Eagles' first African youth title in 16 years after they won the event four times in a row between 1983 and 1989.

Meanwhile, hosts Benin claimed third spot with a 5-3 win on penalties over Morocco after the two sides finished deadlocked at 1-1.

Morocco striker Mouhssine Iajour opened the scoring in the 12th minute when he coolly slotted past onrushing goalkeeper Yoann Djidonou.

Abdoulaye Ouzerou and captain Romuald Boco both then missed good scoring chances for Benin.

Ouzerou however made amends in stoppage time at the end of the first half when he scored Benin's equalizer from an Abou Maiga pass.

Goalkeeper Djidonou emerged Benin's hero in the penalty shoot out as he saved Rida Doulyazal's kick to give the hosts the win.

All four sides will now be looking ahead to the World Youth Championship in Holland in June.
